Tea Tuesday and the 1970's

SO SORRY FOR THE DELAY TODAY
... I just could not get on the internet and on the day it is my turn to host,,,SORRY.

Due to being unable to get on and post I have had to throw this post together in just 40mins that includes the research too.... so if it's a bit mixed up and doesnt follow in places you know why.
My theme was the first thing that cae to mind when I received Kimmies email asking us to take turns hosting. hope that it takes you back in time.

ABBA one of the biggest groups of the 1970's

Dedicated follower of fashion

These boots were made for walking...Nancy and Frank Sinatra...

My brother-in-law wore shoes like the ones above along with a family friend Phil Grahame....real Motown
.

I remember having a pair very similar to the above when I was pregnant with my youngest in 1976 I was walking along and fell off them...down I went into a heap and couldn't get up fast enough ..looking around to see if anyone had seen me....we do that don't we...thankfully no one else was around. lol.

I remember my sister wearing silver boots just like these I wore them in YELLOW... lol... I was the height of fashion even with 2 children.

Above a German fashion shoot

Micro, Mini or Maxi 1970s Skirt Lengths
By 1970 women chose who they wanted to be and if they felt like wearing a short mini skirt one day and a maxi dress, midi skirt or hot pants the next day - that's what we did.

For eveningwear we often wore full length maxi dresses, evening trousers or glamorous catsuits. ... both men and women
Some of the dresses oozed Motown glamour, others less so.

Real Hairstyles of the 1970s
Remember these are what real women looked like. If you are looking for glamour in 1970s hairstyles then check out images of Farrah Fawcett Majors who looked fab
especially during her Charlie's Angels era. (Loved that program ) Such a hairdo would have demanded a hairdresser running around after her on a film set to constantly maintain those flicks with curling tongs. Heated rollers could be used to similar effect, but tongs could achieve more directional hair flick ups. Mostly during the 70s electric tongs were used with Braun gas tongs becoming very popular in the 1980s. I used heated rollers to get my hair like Farah's.... put them in take them out and put your fingers through it to break up the curl NEVER use a brush or comb....just your fingers.
One of the many PG Tips tea adverts of the '70's

I've had trouble with my computer the last few days too - so I can definitely relate! The world comes to a standstill doesn't it? I love your post .... the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle - my friends and I all tried to make our hair do that - we always kept a comb in our back pocket :) too funny!
Happy T today - I'm glad you got things worked out - don't sweat it so much next time :)
Hugs, Kimmie

Wow... I so remember mini dresses (actually I have some not as mini dresses now that are very 70sish that I wear with boots)... and maxi dresses, which I wore more often than minis. Usually I was in embroidered bell bottom jeans, though... with my long hair parted in the middle! And the boots!! I still love boots.

"Those were the days my friend
I thought they'd never end."

But as all days do, they did.

I fell off my platform shoes, too...and gave them up.

The 70's was an era of extremes...I look back now and am thankful I lived through them. :)

Happy tea day. I enjoyed your theme.

Apart from Motown it was definately ABBA for me....heck I even had my hair done curly like Anna Frid's..I was possibly the first person to have it done in our town and at first the hairdresser would not do it because it was so...well er different!!! LOL
xoxo
Had some platforms too....I needed them...only five foot and half an inch you see!!..When I wore them with a trouser suit (yes a 3 piece one) it felt great! :) If only my back would let me wear them again!!

Love this page!! The styles of the boots are so memorable! I really wanted a pair of those embroidered boots, but they didn't fit my feet comfortably.
I began school after a 7 year elementary school, from 1st to 7th grade, and then moved up to a 5 year high school (USA) in 1970-71 when I started 8th grade, and part of my new school wardrobe included a pair of those black lace-up "Granny boots," exactly like the brown pair shown at the top of the page! I loved them to death, and wore them with everything. Since school dress codes finally made a major adjustment that year, FINALLY allowing girls to wear pants😲(except jeans), and Hot Pants, and Mini Skirts with a few limitations on hem lengths. Oddly enough, the revealing hem lengths of the very short mini skirts and the Hot Pants were just FINE with the "powers that be" but the pants were what caused such consternation amongst the older generations! My my - girls wearing actual PANTS to school - what a travesty!!πŸ˜€πŸ˜’ While us girls froze our "tucas" off in the wind, ice and snow of American winters going to, and coming from school, particularly Midwestern ones, and the boys got to wear pants (of course) every day of the year.
I FINALLY got my own "personal power" in 7th grade, and figured out how to get around those stupid rules. I wore my regular school clothes everyday, but also put on a pair of jeans or corduroy pants under my skirt/dress, and wore them to school on the school bus, which was plenty chilly even with the heat on full blast. When I got there, I'd run to the girls restroom and take them off, fold them up and stuff them in my bookbag until school was over. Then I'd run back to the girls rest room and put them back on before I got back on the bus to go home again.
I always figured out how to color coordinate everything, so it wouldn't look freakish, and once the other kids stopped giggling at me, the girls started doing the same thing!
When your winters put you knee deep in snow frequently, you do whatever you can to stay warm! I've got pictures of me shoveling snow in front of our house several winters, and I was wearing my snow suit! It was kind of like a ski suit, but for kids.
Anyway, at 13 in 1970, starting a new school at 8th grade with ALL the other students all the way up to 12th grade Seniors, getting to dress like some of the older students was quite a boost to one's ego! And those boots really added to it! I took very good care of them, and wore them to school for at least three years, through 11th grade! I didn't wear them every day, as I also had several other pairs of shoes to wear at any given time, so I mixed them up, and wore other things too, like sandals, high heels, and platforms, which put me up at 6' tall! I was already 5'8", so another 4" was what made the difference!
