Hi Chriss -
My wax "cooker" is electric. It's called a "crockpot." Your friends manicure device will probably work great. You can also melt in a double boiler - but you have to be careful that water or steam doesn't splatter into the wax. We have different names for things here - I'm hoping you know what I mean by "double boiler."
